Organic wool is partly about farming. The wool is produced without involving certain commonly used chemicals, including preventative treatment against parasites or diseases. Mulesing is prohibited in organic sheep farming. Organic wool is also about the processing of the wool. The GOTS-certification implies that only eco-friendly chemicals (e.g. dyes) are used throughout the process.

Organic wool from Ecological Textiles

Wool is one of the oldest textile fibres, people probably started wearing wool in the 5th millennium b.C. Wool is a natural product that contains no microplastics, has a long lifespan and is used for all kinds of applications. The fabrics that we show here all bear the GOTS-label, which is your assurance that the highest ecological and social standards have been followed throughout the production process.

  • Wool is warm and isolating, yet breathing. It has an unsurpassed natural elasticity, which makes this material ideal for making e.g. costumes, trousers, coats, jackets etc. The thermoregulating properties of wool keep us warm in winter and cool in summer.
  • Wool can absorb 30% of its weight before it starts to feel wet.
  • It is a 100% natural material, recyclable and biodegradable.
  • In the processing of wool that is labelled as organic, extra care was given to animal welfare and the environment. In organic animal husbandry the animals always have acces to open air, the number of animals has to be related to the size of the meadows to avoid erosion and over-fertilisation. They are not treated preventively with insecticides and mulesing of the sheep is forbidden.
