The single jersey (also: single face or plain jersey) is realised by knitting with a single set of needles. The two sides of the fabric have a different appearance, and the fabric is not very extensible in the width. Single jerseys tend to curl at the edges. The single jersey is a basic fabric that is mainly used for T-shirts. Most T-shirts are made from cotton, but the knitting technique can also be applied with other materials e.g. hemp and tencel.
